Energylandia - Winter Kingdom

Europe's largest roller coaster theme park transforms into a Winter Kingdom during the winter, and it's beautiful to visit (though it can be very cold).

It is a 35-minute drive from us, which was close enough to enjoy a Christmassy day out with the boys. We chose to go just before Christmas and take in that Christmas vibe.

Visiting in December for us was a huge win; it's open in January and a few days in February as well. Please check the website before you go there!

The reason for the wins was the Christmas shows, which our youngest loved, we went to 3 shows in total (all different - but the same theme) and while it’s not for adults really my personal win was being inside and keeping warm!

While the youngest and I soaked up the Santa songs and the feel-good factor, Marcin and the older one went on a couple of the biggest rollercoasters that were open and had no queues!

The park opened at 10:00 a.m., and the entrance was filled with a massive Christmas tree.

There was a Santa and Elves show before they opened the gates. As the gates opened, it looked like snow was falling (the effects using the bubble machine were amazing), you really had that lovely winter/Christmas feeling walking in.

We had only visited during the summer, so we had no idea what to expect. The added show and the snow effect were a huge bonus - I recommend arriving in time for this, especially if you have little ones.

Parts of the park were closed, like the waterpark and a few rides, because they were not suitable for the weather.

These closures didn’t affect the rest of the park, which had been decorated with lights and walkway areas that dazzled as the daylight dimmed; it turned into a beautiful winter light walk around the park.

Once again, the lockers played a considerable part. Now hear me out. Whenever I envision a locker, I imagine a fixed place where I need to keep walking back to. However, Energylandia has a clever solution: keep your belongings with you, and the lockers are conveniently located next to and used for keeping your belongings safe while on the rides.

You buy a wristband at the start of the day and for each ride you go on you can put your bags, coats, glasses in the locker next to the ride, when you finish on that ride, the lockers are accessible on the exit side so you can collect your goods as you leave… this was so good, I felt safe knowing my belongings were secure while I was enjoying the ride and because I never took anything with me on any ride (including my phone) I enjoyed the ride more, no one needed to wait or not enjoy the ride so we were able to go on rides together!

You can also leave things in the car and access them later.

We were able to exit and enter the park when needed. You can request an additional wristband from the security personnel at the entrance or exit, and then you can come and go as needed. This is particularly handy if you don't want to carry bags all day around this mammoth park, as well as grabbing an extra jumper, changing shoes or getting that fresh flask of hot coffee from the car that we brought with us.

When we purchased our tickets, we got a deal. I recommend signing up on their website to receive their deals via email or text, so you can take advantage of their many offers.

Winter Kingdom gave us the chance to explore more of the park in winter. Although the days are shorter, the water park and most of the water rides are closed, the park features a Christmas and winter theme, and the shows are geared towards a younger audience, with appearances by Santa. You can also take advantage of the many extra Christmas features, such as snow tubing, ice skating (skates included), a photo with Santa, and gingerbread decorating!

Surprisingly, the massive rollercoasters are open with virtually no queues!

The park felt different, a bit smaller, but full of charm and just as much fun!

The park did close earlier, but we didn’t mind; the temperature was dropping, and we were ready to go home, via a certain fast-food place conveniently located just as you leave the park

When you leave the park, there are a couple of fast food restaurants, and they stay open as late as Energylandia does, so you can eat when you leave, regardless of the time.

Be aware of the queues, not just inside the food places, but also in the car park.
